James Meyer, President
Mr. Meyer began his elevator work in 1970 training as an elevator inspector in Pennsylvania for a private company. He worked as an Elevator inspector inspecting in various States throughout the East Coast including Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Maryland. He moved to California in 1983 and was employed by the State of California for approximately 18 years with a break in service from 1985 to 1987 at which time he served as New England Regional Manager overseeing the inspection of elevators in up-state New York and New England for a private firm.
During his time with the State of California he served as Associate Safety Engineer and Senior Safety Engineer. In 1994 Mr. Meyer was appointed to the position of Principal Safety Engineer (Chief Elevator Inspector) and served through 2002 directing the Elevator, Ride and Tramway Unit part of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. Mr. Meyer was then appointed to a CEA position for the State overseeing the Elevator, Ride and Tramway Unit and Pressure Vessel Unit. Mr. Meyer completed his career with the State overseeing the development of regulations and retired from State service in 2005 to open his private consulting business.
Mr. Meyer is a former member of the A17 Standards Committee. He continues as an NIRG Member, Earthquake Committee Member and a corresponding member of the Evacuation Guide Committee. He is also a member of the A18 Standards Committee.
